The shopping has been done, the receipts have been counted, there’s nothing more our style savvy Fashion Challenge bloggers could do but sit back and see the reaction to their outfits.
Hosted at Out of the Woods juice bar, the Bonfire Bash was a meeting of fashion, style and beauty bloggers to see whether or not their trained eyes could spot the difference between a high street find, a market buy.
We’re delighted to report that the audience was split 50/50 and couldn’t place the outfits. After much deliberation we revealed that outfit one was in fact bought entirely from Leeds Kirkgate Market, boots, bag and all.
Many felt that the yellow shorts gave away the high street outfit and the high street team revealed that their greatest challenge was trying to find something that wouldn’t be instantly recognisable. Team Markets struggled to choose what to buy as there was more choice than they anticipated and the products weren’t as low priced as they expected.
Whilst we’d done our job proving that Leeds Markets offers plenty of choice for fashion followers with no fear of sub standard, poor quality products our final test was yet to come – would anyone actually wear our outfits?!
We asked our guests to pin a label to the item of clothing they liked the most. Our gold top and chunky knit was the most popular with the stripy jumper and clutch bag from the high street also proving popular.
For us the Fashion Challenge was fun but also served to prove that fashion can be affordable without sacrificing quality. The general view from our teams was that quality from the market was on a level with H&M or TK Maxx as opposed to the very bottom end of the high street and that prices were similar to these stores.
The fashion challenge has helped us to dispel the myths of the market and encourage people to look again at the fashion offer we have here, we’re lucky enough to have lots of traders offering lots of different variations on fashion. So while we do still cater for an older audience, there’s also plenty to satisfy those looking for the latest trends.
