What's new?

We know times are tough at the moment and there’s a lot of uncertainty in the air surrounding the market but we really want you to keep visiting, and most importantly keep supporting our hardworking traders. Many of them have impressively been in the market for generations but we still want to keep offering you more.

Contrary to what you might hear we are letting new units. And not only are we letting new units, we’re letting them to exciting and vibrant new businesses! A solid office favourite has become the Little Yorkshire Pie Company on Butchers Row, often we’re found munching on a venison & red wine pie at our desk, then nipping back mid-afternoon for a rhubarb one (calories don’t count if you’re supporting local produce!). We’ve formed a soft spot for Turkish Delight in 1976 where you can watch the owners baking fresh flat breads, and we’ve wiled away our wages there on authentic hummus, lahmajun’s and tantuni’s. We’ve got a new butchers shop, MG Butchers and for our 3.30pm sugar hit there’s The Crepe Hut on the Vicar Lane entrance.

We realise that we’re known for food (and to toot our horn, we’re great at it) but we’ve got loads more going for us. Fizzbomb in 1981 rival Lush! for quality and price (see pic on our Therapy Awards blog post), heavens only knows how we get any work done, we’ve had to stop walking past as it’s too tempting to have a potter in there! And in one of our new business start up units on Row A we’ve got Greenstone Collectibles with their incredible range of gothic and fantasy art.

Over the past few years hundreds of thousands of pounds have been invested in the market, we know more is needed and that’s being addressed at the moment, but we are making progress and will continue to try to get every penny we can for the markets.

So don’t discount us yet!
