Leeds Markets

Leeds City Council previously had an in-house architectural design team. This team created some of best known public spaces and buildings including Millennium Square, The Electric Press and the city’s wider framework for development.

Following a restructuring within Leeds City Council a joint venture was created with Norfolk Property Services (NPS), also originally a public sector design team. The city council have an agreement in place for NPS Leeds to undertake all major design work over £250,000.

On 21st April 2012 NPS Leeds were appointed to undertake further feasibility and design concept work for the future of Leeds Kirkgate Market.

The full brief is available for download here. The main areas of work that NPS Leeds is appointed to undertake include:

• Five options have been put forward by the original report ranging from £6m to £20m+. This stage of work will determine a range of design proposals for each option.
• Identifying key considerations from accessibility and logistics of a busy working market to procurement and legal implications.
• Propose suggestions for surveys, consultations and research studies where necessary.
• Assisting with risk management.
